    Scholarship Guidelines

    Richard O. Jacobson Postsecondary Scholarship Guidelines

    In 2021, Clearwater For Youth (CFY) is proud to be awarding both $10,000 and $5,000 college, university, trade or vocation school scholarships to be presented early this spring. A $5,000 scholarship is given over a two year period ($2,500 per fall enrollment) and a $10,000 scholarship is allocated over a 4 year period ($2,500 per fall enrollment). In 2020, CFY granted fifteen $5,000 and three $10,000 scholarships totaling $105,000 in aid. For this 2021 cycle, CFY anticipates presenting approximately $100,000 in assistance.

    The guidelines for consideration are as follows:

    • Available to 12​th grade students attending a Pinellas County school, more specifically in the greater Clearwater, North Pinellas area
    • Student has exhibited the highest qualities of good sportsmanship, teamwork and moral standards
    • A graduating high school senior that has participated for a significant period of time in youth/high school sports and/or other extracurricular activities
    • Great weight is given in a variety of areas including financial need, leadership, academics, community service, sports achievements and participation in Clearwater For Youth co-sponsored groups
    • A one-page essay describing ​“Why are you a strong candidate for the Clearwater For Youth Richard O. Jacobson College Scholarship? What would this award mean to you and your pursuit of higher education?”
    • To be given due consideration for a need-based weighted college scholarship parents/guardians of an applicant must complete the confidential Need-based Section at the end of this application

    The CFY Richard O. Jacobson Postsecondary Scholarship Application can be found on our website at www.clearwaterforyouth.org​. Completed forms must be emailed to ​daniela@clearwaterforyouth.org by January 25, 2021 to be considered and recipients will be notified shortly thereafter. Scholarships are given to help defray the costs of tuition, books, room and board or other necessary expenses and are issued directly to an institution.

    All applications will be reviewed by the CFY Scholarship Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees. The scholarship recipient and parents/guardians will be invited to attend a special recognition ceremony (pending pandemic). Recipients will also be acknowledged by the Mayor and City Council at a Clearwater City Council meeting later in the spring.

    Need-Based Form

    Clearwater For Youth (CFY) provides scholarship opportunities for deserving Pinellas County graduating High School Seniors to attend college, university, trade or vocational school. The Florida Income Eligibility Guidelines from the Pinellas County School Board are the standards utilized by CFY to determine need-based weighted scholarships. ​To be given due consideration for a need-based weighted college scholarship, a parent/guardian of the student must complete and submit the following.
